- Getting started with Andrew File System and OpenAFS

This site is unaffiliated with the OpenAFS project. For the official site for OpenAFS see

Motivation is a site documenting some aspects of Andrew File System and OpenAFS. The official website of OpenAFS has a lot of good quality documentation. This site ( is targeted at new users of OpenAFS in an attempt to supplement the official website which seems to have a focus towards more experienced users and administrators.

If you would like to contribute with documentation or improving this site in any way please send me an e-mail so I can add you as a user. Contribution to this site is very welcome.

Who is behind

The site is operated by Georg Sluyterman ( If you have any questions or comments, feel free to write me. If you find an error on this site and you are to lazy to register and fix it you self: Please send me an e-mail with the correction. Thank you! For questions about OpenAFS in general (help with installing, configuring and so on) check out or try the IRC channel ( channel #openafs). The people of the OpenAFS community are in general very helpful.

Use of content from this site

If you are running an AFS cell, you are welcome to redirect your users to this site instead of recreating the same documentation as you would probably find here. If you copy or make derived work from content from this site e.g. for another website do me a favor and drop me a line about it (there is no obligation to do so, but it would be nice to have an overview of derived work if it exists).

The content of this site is currently under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license (the rights of the OpenAFS logo belongs to though, and screenshots of applications to their respective rightholders i suppose..). If some of the material on this site is usable for the use on the official website or other relevant places I am flexible with regards to licensing etc.
